About creating marketing campaigns
With Square Marketing, you can easily create marketing campaigns by designing and targeting customized email and social media promotions. Use the intuitive tools to optimize your campaign reach and engagement, making it simple to connect with your customers.
Before you begin
You can create email marketing campaigns in Square Dashboard.
To send a marketing campaign, you need to add customer information to your directory.
If you choose to send an email campaign, you can choose a one-time blast campaign or set up an ongoing automated campaign.
If you choose to send a Facebook campaign, you can choose between different types of one-time campaigns.
If your business has multiple locations, you have the option to select one specific location if it isn't relevant for all locations. This will determine which address shows up at the bottom of emails and limit where coupons can be redeemed.
You can choose to target your best customers with different smart groups. Smart groups are recommended customer groups, such as top spenders, frequent visitors, active customers, and loyal subscribers.
To send a campaign about a loyalty promotion, make sure you're subscribed to loyalty and have a program set up.
If sending a Square Loyalty promotion campaign, you can choose from all your scheduled or currently active promotions, or you can create a new promotion.
If you're including a coupon in your campaign, be sure to include an offer amount and expiration date. Coupons can be redeemed in-store or via Square Online.
With Square Marketing, you have access to a searchable image gallery with over 850,000 free stock photos.
When creating a one-time blast campaign with Square Marketing, the option to send a reminder email to recipients who haven't opened your message is disabled by default. If you want to send reminder emails, this setting can be switched on from the Review & Send step of the campaign creation process.
Reminder emails are sent five days after the original delivery date. Campaigns with coupons or discounts are sent again to those who haven't opened your message seven days before the coupon is set to expire. By default, a coupon expires two months after the campaign is sent, unless you've set it to expire on a different date.
Create an email marketing campaign
Sign in to Square Dashboard, then click Marketing & loyalty > Marketing.
Click Create Campaign and select whether you'd like to send an Email, Text Message, Receipt, or Facebook campaign.
Click Next. Under Choose a campaign, select the campaign location(s) and objective.
Click Design. Select a pre-existing template or use the default template to customize your email. Choose your default campaign colors, layout, global styles, font size, button size, email header styles, and more. You can also add images, new text fields, and items from your library, and re-order these blocks of content so the email matches exactly what you're looking for.
Click Select Audience. Choose all customers or select a custom set of customers. If you chose a smart group when selecting your campaign objective, you can adjust the group recipients by clicking Modify.
Click Review Campaign.
Once reviewed, click Schedule or Send Now.
Create email content with artificial intelligence (AI)
Sign in to Square Dashboard, then click Marketing & loyalty > Marketing.
Click Create Campaign and select Email > Next.
Choose a campaign and click Design.
Click any existing text block (header or body), or drag a text block into your template.
Click Generate content.
Add message details, instructions, or keywords to the prompt area.
Choose the length and tone of your message.
Click Insert to accept the copy for your email campaign, or click Try again to have AI generate a new version of your message.

Create and send vanity code coupons
Sign in to Square Dashboard, then click Marketing & loyalty > Marketing.
Click Coupons > Create Coupon.
From the design screen, you can create a custom code, choose a coupon type, choose when the coupon applies, and add a description and an expiration date.
Click Activate.
Share promotions via digital receipts
Sign in to Square Dashboard, then click Marketing & loyalty > Marketing.
Click Create Campaign.
Select Receipt and enter your campaign name > Continue.
Customize your campaign's theme, edit coupon details, and add content > Continue.
Finish reviewing your campaign > Schedule or Send Now.
Share promotions via social media
Sign in to Square Dashboard, then click Marketing & loyalty > Marketing.
Click Create Campaign and select Facebook > Next.
Choose a campaign and click Next.
Customize the content and design of the post > click Next.
Click Connect under Facebook > Approve on Facebook.
Log in to your Facebook account and click Okay to accept all permissions.
Select the Facebook groups you'd like to include in your promotion > click Send Email.
Build up your Facebook presence
Sign in to Square Dashboard, then click Marketing & loyalty > Marketing.
Click Create Campaign and select Facebook > Next.
Choose Build up your Facebook presence for the campaign objective.
Personalize the email message > click Continue.
Customize your audience > click Continue
Click Send Now or schedule your campaign for a later date.
Cancel Square marketing campaigns
Sign in to Square Dashboard, then click Marketing & loyalty > Marketing.
Select the active campaign you'd like to cancel > click Cancel.
Select whether you'd like to still honor unredeemed coupons, or cancel and invalidate them.
Click Cancel Campaign.
